U.S. Shipments

U.S. Shipments

Japan Post Service to the U.S. (And What We’re Doing in the Meantime)

If you’ve tried to order from Japan Goods Direct recently and noticed that shipping to the United States is limited (or temporarily unavailable through certain methods), we want to share a clear update— and most importantly, explain what’s happening in a way that’s fair to everyone involved.

First: Japan Post has not abandoned small businesses

Japan Post has been an incredible partner for international shipping for years, and we have a lot of respect for the role they play— not just for businesses like ours, but for everyday people sending packages to friends and family overseas.

Right now, however, Japan Post (along with other domestic shipping partners in Japan) is operating in a world that has changed fast.

New requirements around U.S. import duties, processing, and fee collection mean carriers must update their systems so they can properly capture, calculate, collect, and remit duties and fees to U.S. Customs when required. That kind of change isn’t a simple switch— it’s a full operational rebuild behind the scenes.

So while we understand how frustrating this is for customers who simply want their order shipped quickly and affordably, we also understand why Japan Post needs time to re-tool.

What this means for Japan Goods Direct customers

At Japan Goods Direct, we specialize in items that are hard to find outside, including popular pop-art stickers and limited and seasonal Japanese gummies

And we ship them with a lot of care. But when a major shipping option becomes unavailable, it forces us to make a choice:

Pause U.S. shipping completely

or

Use alternative carriers so U.S. customers can still order

We’ve chosen the second option— because we know many customers don’t want to wait indefinitely, especially when items are seasonal, limited, or restocked unpredictably.

The interim solutions (and the honest downside)

To keep orders moving to the U.S., we’ve had to explore alternative shipping methods.

These options are reliable, trackable, and professional— but in many cases they’re also more expensive than we’d prefer, especially for smaller packages.

We want to be transparent about that:

We’re not trying to inflate shipping costs. We’re simply working within the reality of what’s available right now.

Our priority is still the same as it’s always been:

Get your order to you safely, quickly, and in great condition.

Why we’re optimistic about Japan Post returning

The moment Japan Post restores full service to the U.S., it’s going to be an instant win for customers— because Japan Post has historically offered some of the best cost-to-speed balance for shipping from Japan.

So yes, we are actively watching for updates, and we’re genuinely looking forward to the return of Japan Post service to the United States.

When it comes back, we expect one immediate benefit:

Lower shipping costs for U.S. customers— instantly.

Thank you for your patience and your support

We know shipping isn’t the fun part of shopping— but it is the part that determines whether the whole experience feels smooth or stressful.

Thank you for sticking with us during this transition period.

We’re continuing to ship worldwide, continuing to curate new releases every week, and continuing to do everything we can to keep Japan Goods Direct accessible to our U.S. customers— even while the shipping landscape shifts.

And the moment Japan Post restores service to the U.S., we’ll be ready.
